Cynthia started her career by modeling in New York. The model was immediately signed to a five year contract with Wihelmina Models, which led her to an extremely successful first book as the cover model of Essence Magazine. Cynthia's cover debut was one of Essence's most well-loved covers as well as one of the most requested by then editor-in-chief Susan Taylor. Cynthia got her second image shortly thereafter and was the beginning of the lucrative career she would pursue. After moving to Paris, Cynthia strutted down the Paris Fashion Week runways and Milan Fashion Week. Cynthia, who had lived overseas for nearly one year, returned to New York City where she was very in demand. Campaigns with Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's and Macy's was among her first assignments. The editorials in magazines like Vogue Glamour Elle Essence as well as Vanity Fair followed. Cynthia enjoyed a highlight of her career when she was selected over Naomi Campbell as Sandra Bernhadt's co-star in "Without You I Am Nothing".
